Nate Stevens

Bass

A few years back, Nate left his native home of Louisville, Kentucky with education and music-making on his mind. The University of Miami (Ohio) taught him to teach; bass studies with Chris Fitzgerald and gigs with avant crypto-jazzers Surviving The Dime taught him to play. Diploma and bass in hand, Nate hit NYC wide-eyed and found himself in Tycoon Dog 2 weeks later. When he’s not on the road with the band or teaching 8th graders in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Nate likes to hang out with his black Manx cat Megadeth (“he’s really half monkey, half rabbit”) and listen to faves like Tortoise, MMW (especially Chris Wood), The Flaming Lips, and Godspeed (You) Black Emperor. Nate’s bass style delivers a rare combination of silky fluidity and devastating propulsion, key elements in creating Tycoon Dog’s devastating groove. He is also, by far, the strongest member of the band.
